On December 5, 2017, bike share finally became a reality in New Orleans, offering residents an exciting new way to move around their city. The launch of “Blue Bikes” solidified a year’s worth of hard work and coordination among several partners to develop the technologically advanced bike share program. The Spears Group executed the marketing and communications efforts for both Social Bicycles, the national operator of Blue Bikes, as well as the presenting sponsor, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana.
The Spears Group worked with Social Bicycles to create the program through planning, support, market research and outreach. Spears also leveraged its expertise in strategic communications and event planning for two major public relations activations; the announcement of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana as the title sponsor in August and the launch of the official bike share program in December, where a caravan of more than 100 riders on Blue Bikes took a celebratory stroll down the Lafitte Greenway.
Blue Bikes will make it easier for New Orleans residents to make point to point bike commutes in a convenient, healthy and low-cost way. Spears is proud to be a part of the effort of progressive change and infrastructure as the City celebrates its Tricentennial.
