This year, Spears Group partnered with Greater New Orleans, Inc. (GNO, Inc.) to present the fifth annual Millennial Awards in conjunction with the inaugural Emerge Summit, a new annual emerging leadership conference. The Summit took place on Friday, July 14, at the Ace Hotel followed by the 2017 Millennial Awards show on Saturday, July 15, at the Civic Theatre in New Orleans. Guests dressed to impress began arriving around 6 p.m. for the start of the Best Millennial Restaurant Competition presented by Yelp. Attendees sampled the best dishes from Melt, Diva Dawg, Alma, Poke Loa, DTB, and Lula Restaurant Distillery before voting to crown Poke Loa as this year’s champion.
In the spirit of empowering the younger generation of Millennials, Spears’ own Morgan Ballard, Makala Blake, Reggie Cockerham and Elle Schmidt kicked off the awards ceremony around 7 p.m. with opening remarks. The Millennial Award winners in each of the 18 categories were announced by emcees Thanh Truong of WWL-TV and Erika McConduit, President and CEO of Urban League of Greater New Orleans. At the conclusion of the awards, guests danced the night away at the after party featuring a live performance by DJ Soul Sister, the award winning “queen of rare groove.”
The 2017 Millennial Awards were sponsored by Tulane Health Systems, Chevron, State Farm, WWL-TV, iHeartMedia and Tanqueray. For a full list of finalists and winners, visit millennialsmeet.com.
