The Greater New Orleans Funders Network (GNOFN) Criminal Justice Action Table (CJAT) retained Spears Group to develop a statewide public relations strategy to support the criminal justice reform legislative package.  The tactics included message development, media training, media relations, and social media.  Spears Group also coordinated efforts with other thought leaders supporting the Justice Reinvestment (JRI) legislative package.

Team Spears secured several story placements, opinion editorials, letters to the editor, television and radio interviews across the state of Louisiana. Additionally, Spears Group developed a series of social media videos, which garnered more than 70,000 views, hundreds of shares, and engaged tens of thousands across the state.

On June 15, Governor John Bel Edwards signed all ten bills of the historic overhaul of Louisiana's criminal justice system into law. The amended package will reduce the prison population by 10 percent and will save $262 million dollars over the next decade.

Spears Group was honored to play a role in such a meaningful package of legislation that will move our state forward and start the process of creating a more equitable Louisiana.
