On Jan. 26, the Mayor’s Office of New Orleans and the Network for Economic Opportunity hosted the first-ever Corporate Citizenship Awards (CCA) ceremony at the Civic Theatre. Produced by Spears Group, the event celebrated and recognized local and national businesses determined to generate job opportunities for those who are disadvantaged in professional and educational institutions. It was a successful night, with the CCA attracting more than 400 businesses and community leader attendees.
In 2014, the Economic Opportunity Strategy was created to ensure opportunities for success for the people of New Orleans. The City enforced initiatives to employ disadvantaged individuals to local businesses, allowing for experience in the professional world as well as economic growth. The CCA acknowledged seven partnering businesses: LCMC Health, International House, Windsor Court, Chester Electric, Strategic Staffing Solutions, Hilton Riverside, and Hyatt Regency. These honorees received recognition for their exceptional workforce efforts and creation of economic opportunity in the City of New Orleans. The evening’s highest award was given to Louisiana’s largest employer, Ochsner Health System. President and CEO, Warner Thomas, accepted the Chief Executive of Opportunity Award for the corporation’s positive impact on the lives of job seekers in New Orleans. A highlight of the night occurred when Thomas himself offered to pay the college tuition of a well-deserving student. Spears Group is proud to have produced such a rewarding event. By way of reform in the hiring processes and collaboration with local and national businesses, New Orleans has seen steady growth in job creation and employment.
